Meet Dr. Omar L. Caban

Dr. Omar L. Caban is a highly-accomplished pediatrician, board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons serving Fayetteville, Spring Lake, Cameron and Sanford area, specializing in pediatrics and adolescent medicine. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. He is an Associate Professor at Campbell University School of Medicine, Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP), member of the North Carolina Medical Society, North Carolina Pediatric Society, the Pediatric Council on Clinical Information Technology and American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

Dr. Caban has long been interested in how to ensure the pediatric practice of medicine works more flawless, involves the family, becomes more personalized, is compassionate, and pleasant. During his residency training, he was selected to be a National Institute of Health (NIH) Scholar and completed a Master of Science in Clinical Research (M.Sc.). His thesis was in the methylation of DNA genes associated to the development, and treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) featured in American Society of Hematology medical journal Blood .

As a faculty member at the Uniformed Services University Medical School, Dr. Caban was selected pediatric educator of the year 2012. After three years of serving in the United States Air Force, Dr. Caban remained interested in how to deliver better care, increase the amount of time physicians spend with its patients and improve the satisfactions among patients. Dr. Caban completed a Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina and completed a Master’s of Science in Analytics from Kogod Business School at the American University in Washington DC. For his academic performance, he was selected to be part of the exclusive Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. From his desire to abandon assembly line medicine and be able to spend more time with his patients, he decided to open Phycinity; to provide the Fayetteville, Spring Lake, Cameron and Sanford area with a dedicate boutique pediatric practice.

A PROUD VETERAN

Dr. Caban does continue to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. During his time in the USAF, he has commanded medical special forces. He attended the Air Command and Staff College from the Air University, receiving a Master’s in Military Operational Art and Science. He has gained unique skills and has served as a special forces flight surgeon, flying in multiple aircrafts for half a decade. In addition, he has taken care and enhanced the performance of the most elite forces in our nation. He enjoys working with adolescent and some adult patients who wants to excel in sports, maintain a healthy weight and perform at the top of their game. As a former airman, he understands what is like to serve and knows what it means to be dedicated, disciplined, and passionate. He brings those same traits to his career in pediatrics.

AN UNIQUE HOLISTIC APPROACH TO PEDIATRIC HEALTHCARE

Dr. Caban’s personal experience has guided him to provided compassionate and personalized care. He is a proud husband and parent of three children, including premature identical twin girls. He knows first hand as a parent of 29 weeks’ premature twin babies how much it matters to have access to the right care at the right time. He and his wife enjoy home schooling their children, cooking organic foods and outdoors activities. Parents looking for a pediatrician, can consult with Dr. Caban at convenient hours, eliminating the hassle and inconvenience of the working and school hours. His compassion to the pediatric community in addition to his bi-cultural-bilingual background makes him uniquely situated to provide pediatric services.
